This is so true and also so difficult to solve for, as these jerks are usually in leadership positions. It's particularly troublesome when in co-founder positions, which is what I encountered most recently. What to do then?

Tough one, but I believe the same things apply. A candid conversation about behaviour and it's impact to start with. Ultimately though, if the jerk is very senior and options to help un-jerk them are limited, or limited to other senior people, then the only option you have is to find a new job and leave them with a very salty exit interview!
