PwC now tracks your office days with a traffic‑light system. Under 60 % presence? Amber. Under 40 %? Red. Less presence may even dent your bonus.
Methodical? Sure.
Trust‑building? Not even remotely.
And, as we all know presence isn’t productivity. Bums-on-seats is a rubbish proxy metric for productivity.
People deliver value and not hours logged. I’ve written about this loads. PwC of all people should be reading my work!
If surveillance steals autonomy, it steals trust in much larger and more devastating amounts too.
Here’s a thought (or three, actually):
Use data to support, not snare.
Frame conversations around productivity, not presence.
Offer “office days” for team hustle, not daily oversight.
Because when people feel trusted, they show up and not because they’re watched.
Swipe points may drop. Engagement might rise.
So ask yourself: Are you measuring desk time, or guarding trust?
If loyalty leaves, attendance won’t matter.
